Information and Referral Service

The front office of the SVCPC is home to the Information Services & Referral Program, which serves as the central hub of our Community Policing Centre. Our walk-in services play a vital role in addressing the daily crime and safety concerns of residents, promoting crime prevention measures, and offering information about available community resources.

Foot Patrol

Our foot and bike patrol programs consist of our trained volunteers who identify and report suspicious activity in the neighborhood. They support the City of Vancouver and the Vancouver Police Department by cross-referencing license plates of community vehicles with a database of missing automobiles, aiding in reporting and recovering stolen or abandoned cars. Volunteers receive training on proper reporting procedures used by the City and police to locate and retrieve stolen vehicles. Additionally, they educate the public through crime prevention notices, offering tips to secure vehicles and reduce break-in risks.

Community Outreach

Through our outreach initiatives, we foster stronger connections with community members and organizations in South Vancouver. Our dedicated SVCPC staff, volunteers, and NPO actively participate in various community events, visiting schools, community centres, and neighborhood houses. During these engagements, we deliver informative presentations, offering valuable insights on crime prevention and community policing. Our goal is to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and resources to ensure a safer and more secure community.

ICBC Speedwatch

Speed Watch volunteers trained by ICBC set up roadside stations with speed monitoring devices and speed reader boards in order to inform drivers of the speed that they are traveling.

The program is aimed at reminding drivers to drive safely and stay within the posted speed limit. Vancouver Police Officers occasionally work with the Speed Watch members by setting up VPD-enforced speed traps down the road. If the drivers do not slow down for the Speed Watch members they will be forced to do so by the Vancouver Police, and of course, receive a speeding ticket from one of Vancouver’s Finest!
